Donald Trump’s son Barron was eleven years old when his father claimed the White House in 2016. He remained hidden from public scrutiny and a biased, unkind media that sought to mock him for simply being Trump’s son. Besides a recent brief courtroom skirmish over his father’s ability to attend his high school graduation while on trial, his name has been largely forgotten.
But a funny thing happened while the public’s attention was shifted elsewhere. Barron turned 18, and now, seemingly unexpectedly, it’s his time to shine for the RNC. Per a report by NBC News, the youngest Trump was selected by the Republican Party of Florida as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention.
But Barron has indicated he’s far “too busy” to accept the honor.
At the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, scheduled for July 15-18, approximately 2,469 delegates will participate in voting for their preferred candidate. These include 2,365 delegates pledged to specific candidates and 104 who are uncommitted. To secure the Republican presidential nomination, a candidate must earn the backing of a majority of delegates, which amounts to approximately 1,235 for 2024.
In some ways, his appointment as a delegate for Florida was a small, nominal role. His only “job” would have been to cast a vote for Donald Sr. at the RNC in July. But for Barron, it marked the first step towards a future career in politics, a dream he has had since childhood.
It was to be Barron’s big debut in a family full of political figures. As expected, Eric and Donald Trump, Jr. will also be Florida delegates along with sister Tiffany, her husband Michael Boulos, and Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
Other notable delegates are former state Attorney General Pam Bondi, a longtime ally of Trump, Trump adviser Sergio Gor, significant Trump donor and former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter, and various state-level Republican politicians who openly backed Trump over DeSantis.
Former President Donald Trump has secured victory in the state twice, notably winning by over a three percentage point margin during his reelection campaign in 2020. The state party has predominantly thrown its support behind his potential presidential bid for the current election cycle, even before his formal nomination.
Standing at an astonishing 6 feet 7 inches tall, Barron is a Trump Tower in his own right. He has been working behind the scenes in the Trump campaign. He is already impressing his fellow conservatives with his keen political insight, charm, and tact. Since Trump Sr. isn’t exactly known for his tact or charm, it’s proof that perhaps the apple falls farther from the tree than we think.
